Editors’ Notes To say darkwave synth-pop practitioner Molly Nilsson is fiercely DIY is no exaggeration. The Berlin-via-Sweden musician not only composes and produces her own music but also releases these tunes via her own label, Dark Skies Association. Unsurprisingly, Nilsson has flourished from having so much creative control. Her late-2000s forays into Beach House-reminiscent dream pop eventually became less hazy and primitive, evolving into synth-cushioned indie, greyscale post-punk and ’80s New Wave throwbacks. On 2018’s 2020, Nilsson even dipped her toes into pointed commentary about the future of humanity and society.
