Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla Essentials

Lithuania-born Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla became a rising star in the world of classical conducting in the 2010s and 2020s, revered for her commitment to the ensembles she works with and deep investment in her chosen repertoire. After building her résumé through engagements like a fellowship at the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Gražinytė-Tyla began an extended relationship with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in 2015, serving as musical director until 2022. With them, she made her first major recordings, released on Deutsche Grammophon. Gražinytė-Tyla’s first recording for the label was a widely lauded collection of works by Soviet composer and Shostakovich contemporary Mieczysław Weinberg; other highlights include her takes on richly melodic works by UK titans Ralph Vaughan Williams and William Walton.
