Ever the musical sponge, Michael Franti's album tracks play with dancehall, calypso, and Afrobeat rhythms to give his socially conscious songs, such as the effervescent “Taxi Radio,” a naturally appealing, all-hands-together lilt. Where he is at his most sharp and political, as in “Rock the Nation,” the lyrics are set against an unstoppable groove, so his fury heals as it burns.
