M.C. Schmidt and Drew Daniel got their start working odd samples, like the neural activity of crayfish, into experimental dance music. Soon, the duo were touring as Björk's backup band and tirelessly testing the genre's conceptual limits. They have recorded plastic surgery, fused Medieval folk with Americana, paid tribute to Larry Levan and Darby Crash, and explored parapsychology through the lens of their own romantic relationship, all in pursuit of an unusually playful avant-garde vision. Daniel, a literature professor, also records as The Soft Pink Truth, while Schmidt is a solo improviser.
