As befits a man with a lot to do, Marco Beltrami's signature style is elegantly busy. His acclaimed soundtrack work—across such movies as The Woman in Black, The Hurt Locker and The Fantastic Four—plays emotional tricks with tempo and repetition. Sometimes he stretches out a series of slow, suspenseful chords, each one a further step into the unknown. Then, for the more active sequences, he'll gather clicks, booms and tiny phrases of short notes into an interlocking clockwork landscape, each element fizzing with percussive focus.
