Manitas Nerviosas Essentials

Helmed by pioneering and prolific Monterrey artist Valis Ortiz, Manitas Nerviosas served as a primarily solo endeavor for the prolific performer. After years of working within a band context via Bam Bam and XYX, among other projects, the trans artist’s creativity best revealed itself on 2017’s synth-driven EP Devoción and the subsequent A Love Supermeme in 2021. With standout moments like the vocal pair “Tu Carita Toda Hermosa” and “Ilumíname,” her impactful contributions to experimental electronic music presented from a queer perspective ensure a legacy that will continue to inspire. Ortiz passed away in July 2022.
