Lucky Daye Essentials
Before becoming a solo artist, Lucky Daye (born David Brown in 1985) was an accomplished songwriter behind the scenes, penning tracks for the likes of Ne-Yo, Boyz II Men, Ella Mai, and Mary J. Blige. But the New Orleans-hailing singer was meant for his own spotlight. From the jump, Lucky’s first singles, such as the breezy “Roll Some Mo” (2018) and the funk-meets-trap “Karma” (2019), revealed an artist with a distinct, soulful voice and wide-ranging R&B sound that pulls from the classic and contemporary. Other songs, like “Over” (2021) and “Guess” (2022), further showed his songwriting skills, with their gripping explorations of the hazy space between love and heartbreak. With Kehlani, Leon Bridges, KAYTRANADA, and other collaborations under his belt, Lucky Daye has his fingerprints all over modern R&B.
