Editors’ Notes In just two years, Ariel Camacho made a formidable impact well beyond Mexico as the charismatic frontman of Los Plebes del Rancho, right before his untimely death in 2015 at age 22. The remaining members of the Guamúchil, Sinaloa troupe continued to forge their own way in Sierreño music, recruiting Johnny Cortés to take over on vocals and requinto. The bittersweet balladry of 2016’s “No Lo Hice Bien” displays the raw emotion the trio is known for—yearnful, poetic verses, each guitar pluck tugging at the listener’s heartstrings. Then, “Por Enamorarme” sheds light on the tender side of small-town Mexican chivalry.
