Editors’ Notes Louisiana-born guitar hero Kenny Wayne Shepherd is either a bluesman with a rock 'n' roll soul or a rocker whose heart beats blues. It all depends on when you catch him, and whether he's channeling Stevie Ray Vaughan with the explosive licks of 1999's "Shotgun Blues" and throwing down with B.B. King on the latter's classic "The Thrill Is Gone," or letting loose the hammering, metal-inflected riffs of the hard-charging 2004 rocker "Alive." On “True Lies,” he's a whole lot of both, a soulful hook and his bitter lyrics driven home with a jagged electric guitar line.
