Kaskade: Music That Moves Me

“There’s a good spectrum of moods here, we’re going to go on a whole journey,” Ryan Raddon—better known as Kaskade—tells Apple Music. “I would never do you dirty and start at 10, then stay at 10, then end at 10. Trust me, I’m a professional.” There’s no question that the renowned DJ/producer knows exactly how to turn up and turn down, kicking off this workout mix with several of his own laidback EDM tracks, building up to high-intensity cuts from Kevin de Vries, Kx5, and Mau P, before finishing strong on “Maximum” by Anti Up. It’s a particularly impressive feat considering Raddon’s preferred activities—yoga, surfing, and snowboarding—don’t really allow for music to be played at all. “I wake up early so I can get to yoga in the morning. It’s challenging and calming all at once,” he says. “The music is all in my head. There’s always a soundtrack happening, whether it’s the sound of the waves or the traffic. Music is just some organized and disorganized sounds. It’s everywhere.” With or without music, starting the day with exercise is vital to Raddon’s wellbeing. “Making the choice to carve out time for exercising isn’t only beneficial for the physical results,” he says. “It’s also a message to yourself that you’re doing something nice for yourself. I sleep better, crave healthier foods, and am generally a much better person to be around when I’ve had time to move my body.”
