Jonathan Wilson Essentials

A West Coast producer who has worked with the likes of Father John Misty and Conor Oberst, Jonathan Wilson is also a gifted singer/songwriter. His debut, 2011’s Gentle Spirit, revealed an old soul with a love for the kind of lush harmonies, jazz chords and psychedelia drifting through Topanga Canyon in the ’60s. It’s a sound further developed on Fanfare, with vocals from iconic hippies David Crosby and Graham Nash. Yet even in his most cosmic of meditations, Wilson’s Southern upbringing creeps through. This is particularly true of Dixie Blur, on which his spacey ballads come adorned with fiddles, pedal steel and country-soul cries.
