Editors’ Notes Singer/songwriter John Grant has a million shades of droll, and he fluidly switches up his stylistic approach to signal his utter disappointment across genres. In an orchestral ode to flamed-out true love ("Where Dreams Go to Die”), a heartbreaking folk paean ("It Doesn't Matter to Him"), or a digital torch song directed at players who promise more than they can deliver ("Marz"), he proves he has a carefully modulated sigh of exasperation for any occasion. But though he may seem to be a harumph in beard form, he's also capable of witty displays of head-over-heels excitement ("Disappointing"), even if he complains about bad tea beforehand.
