Jody Watley has always worn many hats—singer, songwriter, dancer, and fashion trendsetter. The goddaughter of R&B legend Jackie Wilson, Watley began chasing fame at age 14, when she caught a bus to the set of Soul Train, hoping to score a shot at dancing on the show. She succeeded and became a regular on the music series, leading her to join the R&B group, Shalamar. After performing with the group for a few years, she embarked on a solo career with tremendous success. Her cutting-edge R&B pop and artful, fashion-forward image would make her an icon for decades to come.
