Jerry Jeff Walker Essentials

Though he is now known as an iconic figure in Texas country, Jerry Jeff Walker was born in Oneonta, New York, and earned his musical stripes in the '60s folk scene of Greenwich Village. It wasn't until he relocated to Austin that he became part of the outlaw country scene alongside Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Townes Van Zandt. Walker secured his place in both the pop pantheon with his oft-covered hit "Mr. Bojangles" and in the honky-tonk circuit with his version of the Ray Wylie Hubbard tune "Up Against the Wall, Redneck Mother." He passed away in October 2020 at age 78.
