Janek Schaefer Essentials

Composer Janek Schaefer has created some of the world's most fascinating sonic art, conceptual work that explores, as he puts it, “sound, space, and place.” The former architecture student's first piece was created using material recorded by a sound-activated mic that he sent through the mail. Later in his career, he experimented with turntables, including a record player with three tone arms. In his other works, Schaefer has paid heed to changing technology with a sound collage taken from the last day of analogue TV broadcasts in his native England and composed contemporary classical soundtracks to dance and theater performances.
