Putting an experimentalist twist on club-rocking techno, U.K. producer Surgeon has been cranking out sharp-edged rhythms and hard-driving bass lines since the early '90s. Powered by clattering beats and throbbing low-end frequencies, his stripped-down tracks quickly made him a hero in the European minimal techno scene, but he often takes a more expansive approach when it comes to his albums. When he's freed from dancefloor requirements, Surgeon explores shape-shifting grooves and off-kilter dynamic shifts, adding otherworldly atmospherics drawn from his deep love of industrial music.
