Huey Lewis & The News Essentials

Huey Lewis' regular-guy charm and R&B-based music made him big news in the MTV era. The band began when two San Francisco groups (Soundhole and Clover) merged; the latter were Elvis Costello's backing band on My Aim Is True. With the aid of producer Mutt Lange, Lewis and the band had their first hit single, "Do You Believe in Love," in 1982. The following year they released Sports and hit pay dirt, producing four Top 10 singles. The group scored a Number One with "The Power of Love" in 1985 and continued to release successful albums, including a set of soul covers in 2010.
