Horace Silver: The Session Musicians

Horace Silver: The Session Musicians

A popular sideman until he went solo, Horace Silver arrived in New York with Stan Getz, with whom he recorded his own high-stepping "Split Kick" the following year. With Art Blakey, Silver delivers a piercing solo in "Quicksilver," an original bebop romp. His 1957 recording of "Misterioso" with Sonny Rollins, from Silver's final album as a sideman, contains a piano solo strongly suggesting the shape of hard bop to come.
