Since the ‘70s, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Henry Threadgill has realized questing jazz works, taking the genre to thrilling new places. “Soft Suicide At the Baths” twists New Orleans jazz into an abstract miasma, while “Tomorrow Sunny” hums with a funk pulse as tuba and flute spar against one another, and “Sir Simpleton” throbs with energy as Threadgill's Air trio steadily soar into a rarefied space.
