Heatwave Essentials

Heatwave Essentials

Consisting of an Englishman, a Swiss, a Czech, a Jamaican, and a couple American singers from Ohio, Heatwave was one of the truly international bands of the ‘70s. Their musical recipe was equally integrative. This playlist is slick enough to attract disco denizens, but funky enough to convince R&B diehards. The uniquely ingenious arrangements are the handiwork of pianist-songwriter Rod Temperton, who patented a sound that is endlessly inventive but always fluid. Quincy Jones took notice of Temperton's talents, and soon introduced him to Michael Jackson, who would take Heatwave's sound to the next level on Thriller.
