Steve Vai is a tireless session player who's delivered a ton of iconic riffs and solos for other rockers. In addition to the wild wah-wah on David Lee Roth's pop-metal jam “Yankee Rose,” he created the cold, raking textures woven into Public Image Ltd.'s post-punk hit “Rise.” Vai shifted into overdrive on “Stevie's Spanking,” in which he and Frank Zappa trade frenetic licks that erupt into pure noise.
