Swiss monsters of metal Gotthard rose up in the early ‘90s mixing mountainous, intoxicating hooks with clobbering heaviness and late singer Steve Lee's gritty, otherworldly wails. The slow-burning slink of “Firedance” stomps along like an angry beast (with an assist from Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell), while the dizzying solos and maniacal blitz of “Higher” create a giddy blast of heavy metal. They've got some left-field tendencies too—the band's rendition of Bob Dylan's “Mighty Quinn” is a stormy, arena-rockin' bash.
