Editors’ Notes Golden Earring's history dates back to 1961, when bassist Rinus Gerritsen and singer/guitarist George Kooymans were still teens; a half-decade later, they were racking up hits in their native Netherlands with flower-powered folk-pop ditties like “Dong-Dong-Di-Ki-Di-Gi-Dong.” But their legend was cemented in 1973 with “Radar Love”—a.k.a. the ultimate late-night driving song, with a pulsating bassline that leads the way like a headlight cutting through fog and a revved-up, sax-blasted chorus that puts the pedal to the metal. Ever the chameleons, the band later transitioned into ‘80s pop stars with the dramatic, synth-pumped epic “Twilight Zone.”
