Global Bass: Tecnobrega

Fusing sentimental ballads, covers of pop hits, and a techy calypso beat, tecnobrega developed out of the outlaw sound system culture of the city of Belém. With its liberal use of sampling, the style reaches cheesy extremes, but it also includes the more adventurous experiments of Banda Uó and Daniel Peixoto. It even found a diva in singer Gaby Amarantos, who's been dubbed Brazil's Beyoncé.
