Family Tree: John Coltrane
Apple Music

Due to his tragic death in 1967 at age 51, saxophone giant John Coltrane wasn't able to work with as many virtuoso musicians as his one-time mentor Miles Davis. But from his early '60s work with Eric Dolphy to his final recordings with Pharoah Sanders and Rashied Ali, Coltrane shepherded some of the most innovative voices in modern jazz, and his sidemen became inspired bandleaders themselves.
