Excepter Essentials

Excepter was founded in 2002 by John Fell Ryan of No-Neck Blues Band, who left that group to develop a new kind of sound. The sprawling collective has continuously resisted categorization, starting out with more dissonant, industrial beats that recalled early Cabaret Voltaire, before moving into cleaner techno and house-inspired work. Excepter suffered a huge blow with the untimely death of Clare Armory and the subsequent departure of her husband Nathan Corbin, but carried the torch further with their most-focused work in years, 2014's Familiar.
