Quebec-born indie rocker Steve Dumas knows how to capture the sound of a life in constant emotional motion. Dumas began exploring the gloomier corners of young adulthood on his self-titled 2001 debut, where his poetic French lyrics and restrained voice conveyed thoughtful confidences over classy chamber pop. A seasons-themed quartet of mini-albums released in 2009 contains an edgier palette of artistic possibilities, and his work since then reflects a love of arty pop hooks and groove-giddy exhilaration.
