Diane Tell: Influences

One of Quebec’s most thoughtful and adventurous singer/songwriters, Diane Tell found early inspiration in the barbed balladry of French icons like Renaud and Alain Bashung. Yet Tell’s affection for the maverick ways of Tom Waits and Frank Zappa is just as clear in her songs’ unexpected elements of jazz, rock, R&B, and Brazilian music. The atmospheric blend of folk, pop, and electronic sounds on her later albums reveal her more recent love of Björk and Bon Iver, too.
