Devendra Banhart Essentials

Labeling Devendra Banhart's music “weird folk” is an oversimplification—he's so eccentric and unique that he can't be pigeonholed. Showcasing snippets of hippie folk songs worthy of the original Woodstock on 2002's Oh Me Oh My, Banhart's ambition grew exponentially on subsequent releases. 2005's Cripple Crow was a sprawling 22-song journey into all corners of psychedelia. He has continued to experiment with melody structures and arrangements, sometimes with reckless abandon, but it's his uncannily creative mind that ties it all together.
