A glance at Tokyo's anime mecca Akhihabara reveals a saturation of ever-popular female J-Pop idols, but groups seldom reach the heights of Dempagumi.inc. The crew was formed in 2008 and cycled through several members before the final seven crystallized. Theirs is the sound of full-tilt J-Pop pushed to its extreme, with high-pitched, lightning-speed vocals and percussion that's cranked to heavy metal intensity. And yet Dempagumi.inc keep their denpa song-style bright, fun and approachable—and sometimes even funky—with each of their albums bringing the genre to overdrive.
