EDITORS’ NOTES

Calvin Harris, long the king of larger-than-life dance pop, has cooked up a surprising new side project that’s basically the opposite of that. Called Love Regenerator, it’s an homage to the heyday of rave culture—the early ’90s—and it begins with the brand-new single “Hypnagogic (I Can’t Wait),” a soulful fusion of climbing piano and spiraling acid house. "I wanted to rediscover the way I originally began producing music 22 years ago, before I ever thought about how it might be perceived by outside forces,” Harris tells Apple Music. "Just pure fun and experimentation with what sounded good to me. The records are inspired by early rave, breaks, techno, and house, the music I was obsessed with growing up. In fact, I’ve done everything I can to make them sound like they’ve come from a 1991 time capsule. Every synth and sound used is from that time period.” Listen to “Hypnagogic” now and add this playlist to your library to stay up on the latest and greatest new music.
