Curtis Mayfield wrote civil rights anthems and blaxploitation funk jams, but the honeyed sweetness of his delicate falsetto was made for love songs. From the ornate harps and strings of “The Makings of You” to the pulsing, sexy groove of “In Love, In Love, In Love,” he wrote with an open heart. And 1975's “So In Love,” both regal and impassioned, remains one of his greatest singles.
