Chvrches: Inspirations

Glasgow's Chvrches made their name on maximalist synth-pop that derives its power from its directness. But given the members' pasts in a variety of bands, it's no surprise that there's a wealth of influences here: from Sleater-Kinney's fiery punk to No Doubt's feminist pop smarts, from Kate Bush and Depeche Mode's '80s dazzle to the sophisticated electronics of Oneohtrix Point Never, Caribou, and Radiohead.
