Editors’ Notes After apprenticing with Frank Sinatra, Buddy Rich, and Paul Simon, Chris Botti commenced a successful solo career. Botti calls his style “chill music”: smooth jazz with a touch of ‘50s cool. While his crystalline trumpet lines often lead listeners into simmering late-night grooves, his music always retains a restrained lyricism inherited from Miles Davis. Never content to retread an older generation's innovations, Botti reawakens the beauty of old standards by placing them in new atmospheres. The honesty of his horn makes him one of the most faithful duet partners in modern jazz.
