Editors’ Notes Charley Pride's historic importance can't be understated; not only did the man break through country music's color barrier, but between the late ‘60s and mid-‘80s, he stood as one of the genre's most popular voices, delivering hit after hit with his golden Mississippi baritone. Whether Pride was crooning sunny love songs like "Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'" or letting it all hang out on broken-hearted pleas like "Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone," his relatable stories conveyed oceans of emotion. He wasn't afraid to tackle the raw truth either, evoking his own hardscrabble beginnings on "Mississippi Cotton Picking Delta Town." Pride passed away in December 2020 at age 86.
