Melbourne indie rockers Ceres have never been afraid to wear their hearts on their sleeves. “Viv in the Front Seat” is singer/chief songwriter Tom Lanyon’s celebration of being in love, while “Stretch Ur Skin” is a candid look at a soured relationship. The quartet has long displayed a talent for writing emotionally stirring, life-affirming emo-rock (“Choke,” “I Feel Fine, I Feel Sick”), though the acoustic lament of “Collarbone” and the atmospheric, beat-laden “Loner Blood” (featuring Japanese Wallpaper) speak of a band comfortable exploring more subtle territories.
