Editors’ Notes Since the ‘90s, Cake have never crossed the same path twice, taking us on some wild journeys through sounds least expected. Take the horn-fueled, psychedelia-touched “Open Book” or the mariachi meanderings of “Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps,” both punctuated by singer John McCrea’s unmistakable deadpan delivery. Even in their more subtle works, like the string-plucking rock instrumental “Arco Arena,” Cake dare to embrace the strange.
