Editors’ Notes Cab Calloway spent his career breaking down racial boundaries with his music. Through his landmark performances at the infamous Cotton Club in Harlem, Calloway introduced America to swing and jazz via NBC's weekly live broadcasts from the establishment. He popularized scatting, a rhythmic singing style that would become one of his trademarks, after learning the technique from Louis Armstrong. Calloway's music and dancing styles even directly inspired popular cartoons of the time, including Betty Boop and Porky Pig.
