Billy Sherrill: The Producers

Billy Sherrill: The Producers

Billy Sherrill learned piano by playing tent revivals behind his preacher father, and he learned rhythm by playing early rock in the Deep South. As a country producer, his string overdubs helped move the genre toward pop, but in doing so, he created records that have become essential to the purist canon. Tammy Wynette, Charlie Rich, and George Jones all owe some of their biggest hits to this man.
