Spearheaded by Irv Gotti, Murder Inc. became a hip-hop phenomenon as the '90s ticked over into the '00s. With the platinum poster boy Ja Rule leading the charge, the label pumped out era-defining radio-friendly tracks by Ja, Ashanti, and Lloyd—until a federal indictment in '05 derailed the venture.
