Industrial music began to surface in the ‘80s, as artists like Jim Thirlwell used everything from recorded samples to actual sheets of metal to create a dark, machine-like sound. Soon, acts like Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, and White Zombie began interpreting the style, adding layer upon layer of sound to create melodies from a mosaic of grinding noise.
