Best of Gabba

Gabba is a subgenre of hardcore that originated in the Netherlands in the early '90s. DJs like Marc Acardipane and Lenny Dee pushed tempos from the typical house comfort zone of around 120 beats per minute all the way to 200 and beyond. Gabba's ferociously beating heart is its signature bass drum, which is overdriven to the point that it clips and distorts; over that, DJs layer 909 riffs and wild samples that might range from power tools to film dialogue. The sound fell out of favor in the late '90s as hardstyle took over, but it stands as potentially the most intense form of EDM yet created.
