Butch Walker began his career in the late '80s, playing guitar in the hair-metal band Southgang. He hit paydirt with power-poppers Marvelous 3 in '97, and went solo in '01. All the while, Walker was earning a reputation as a gifted producer, and soon he was producing a wide range of hit artists, from Fall Out Boy to Keith Urban to Katy Perry.
