Dutch violinist and conductor Andre Rieu first became famous in the ‘70s and ‘80s for his performance style: buoyant, adoring interpretations of Viennese classical music (“The Blue Danube”), soothing film tunes (“Edelweiss”), and flowing pop melodies (“The Rose”). Rieu is, of course, best known for creating the Johann Strauss Orchestra in 1987, which tours the world performing intoxicating readings of enduring favorites like the “Intermezzo Sinfonico” from Pietro Mascagni's one-act opera, Cavalleria Rusticana.
