Alice Coltrane Essentials

Alice Coltrane Essentials

Like her husband John, pianist and harpist Alice Coltrane sought to express spirituality in music, which she exercised in an eclectic series of LPs in the '60s and '70s. The jazz legend found strength and versatility in her chosen instruments, and with a rotating list of all-star players like Pharoah Sanders and Archie Shepp, her music explored exotic instruments, while dreamlike passages approached the improvisational heights achieved by her spouse. Coltrane's recordings became more infrequent from the '80s on, but she continued to explore new musical avenues right up to her death in '07.
