Alesha Dixon Essentials

Fabulous though her foxtrot was, it would be a shame if Alesha Dixon was remembered mainly for BBC's Strictly Come Dancing. Her career first took off in the UK with garage girl band Mis-Teeq—Dixon's rapid-fire raps adding bite to their two Top 10 albums. After their split, her solo career faltered a little until her winning Strictly appearance sparked a bidding war. Despite her mainstream TV success, the roiling rhythms of “Drummer Boy” are far from light entertainment—Dixon doesn't take the easy big-ballad path—and her bubbling synths and gutsy vocals recall her Mis-Teeq roots.
