Before he started releasing music under his own name, Scottish singer/songwriter Alasdair Roberts honed his skills in the chamber-folk ensemble Appendix Out, whose enchantingly spare songs flesh out this deep dive into Roberts' catalog. Their rich, exquisitely delicate gems, like the slow, piano-led “Our Sea,” provide a beautiful complement to his trad-leaning solo offerings, such as the stark, plaintive “A Lyke Wake Dirge.”
