Admiral Bailey Essentials

Glendon “Admiral” Bailey was one of the biggest dancehall stars of the late-'80s. His association with the Jammy's label was key to his success, and appearances on duets with Chaka Demus and Josey Wales helped raise his profile in the mid-'80s. Then came a series of proto-ragga hits that defined “slackness,” with overtly sexual lyrics performed over a digital dancehall rhythm. Several of these slacker tunes were banned by Jamaican radio for their lewd content, but still became massive hits. In the early-'90s, he adopted a cleaner performance style.
