My first time.......
I believe this is Madonna's very first muisc video. It may not be one of her best, but it documents the birth of a music icon.
The first time I heard "Everybody" I was at a night club in Milwaukee in the fall of 1982. At that time there was no MTV or "Madonna", there was just the music. The dance floor was full of people when the Everybody started playing and just as many people, or more, where on the floor when the song ended. I remember going to the DJ booth and asking who was that. The guy looked at me and said "That's Madonna.".
That's where it began for me. It was several more months before I actually saw who she was. At that point I was already sold on her music; seeing her for the first time was the cherry on the sundae.
Here we are, 26 years later; Madonna continues to thrill me.
Before Big Money
We all have to start someplace and before the big money to make those million dollar videos. Love Madonna. Very creative.
Back To Where It All Started
Madonna's first video has mostly been forgotten. Even in the early 80s it was never widely seen. In 1984 Madonna released four videos on VHS tape. Burning Up, Borderline, Lucky Star and Like A Virgin were included but not Everybody. It was obviously a low-budget production, but it served as a showcase for a young singer/dancer trying to climb out of the New York club scene and make it big.
Dance music had all but disappeared on top 40 radio after the death of disco, but it had evolved and continued to percolate in the clubs. Madonna would be the conduit that would bring dance music back to the masses. And the world would be a better place. Thank you, Madonna.
