Founded by Manfred Eicher in 1969, ECM established its early reputation with innovative jazz by Keith Jarrett, Paul Bley, Jan Garbarek, and the Art Ensemble of Chicago. In 1984, ECM New Series, a platform for composed music, was launched with Arvo Pärt’s Tabula Rasa.
